Engineering Manager

On behalf of a partner company, Nordic Investin is looking for an Engineering Manager. You believe strong engineering management means better decisions, healthier teams and software that becomes easier to change.

The partner is growing a product engineering group and needs a manager who can combine people leadership with credible technical direction. You will create clarity around ownership, hiring, delivery and development while partnering closely with product management.

The environment will suit someone who enjoys building systems, testing assumptions in code and taking responsibility for production behaviour. Technical choices are expected to be explained in terms of maintainability, reliability and the people who use the product.

You will work in short delivery cycles with direct access to product, domain and operational colleagues. The partner expects engineers to review designs, test assumptions early and follow important changes into production. Decisions should be recorded clearly enough that another engineer can understand the tradeoff months later.

This is a leadership role with hands on responsibility for direction, decisions and the capability of others. You will create enough structure for teams to move independently, while stepping into detail when risk or ambiguity demands it. The partner wants visible ownership without unnecessary hierarchy.

• Lead and develop a team of software engineers.

• Set clear expectations and coach performance through regular feedback.

• Improve planning, delivery flow and sustainable on call practices.

• Recruit thoughtfully and build an effective onboarding path.

• Partner with product leaders on scope, risk and team capacity.

• Maintain enough technical depth to challenge designs and remove blockers.

• Previous line management or engineering lead responsibility.

• Strong software engineering foundation and production experience.

• Evidence of coaching senior and developing engineers.

• Ability to manage delivery without reducing work to activity metrics.

• Experience recruiting and shaping team capability.

• Clear, humane communication in English.

• Management across more than one team.

• Organisational design during growth or change.

• Background in SaaS, platforms or regulated products.

You may be an experienced manager or a technical lead who has already taken meaningful responsibility for people and delivery. We are looking for someone who can be direct about standards while creating the safety required for honest technical discussion.

The role gives you influence over both the product and the environment in which engineers do their best work. The partner wants a manager who can build durable capability, not simply coordinate a backlog.

During the process, Nordic Investin will focus on concrete decisions you have made: the context you received, the alternatives you considered, the result you observed and what you would change today. You do not need every optional technology if your core experience transfers and you can explain how you would close the gap.
