System Engineer/Architect – Space Systems & Satellite Communications

We are currently seeking an experienced System Engineer/Architect for one of our clients, offering the opportunity to work with technically complex systems within satellite communications and space systems.

The ideal candidate has a technical background in satellite communications or radio communications, combined with the ability to work at system level across areas such as system design, requirements, integration and verification.

Our client is a Swedish technology company developing advanced solutions for secure and reliable communications. Its technology is used globally in environments with demanding requirements for performance, mobility and resilience, including applications within defence, national security and critical infrastructure.

About the role

As a System Engineer/Architect, you will work with the overall system and the dependencies between different technical subsystems. You will translate this understanding into system designs, technical requirements and solutions that work together as part of a complete system.

An important part of the role involves collaboration with external suppliers and technical partners. You will define and follow up on technical requirements, review proposed solutions and documentation, and drive technical discussions with both internal and external stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

• System engineering, system design and system analysis.
• Definition, decomposition and follow-up of technical requirements.
• Integration of systems and subsystems such as satellites, terminals, modems, radio systems, onboard systems and ground systems.
• Planning and follow-up of verification and validation activities.
• Technical review of solutions and documentation.
• Technical dialogue and follow-up with external suppliers and partners.
• Technical project management of smaller systems and subsystems.

The role requires you to move between different technical areas and collaborate with both internal specialists and external partners. You should therefore be comfortable diving into technical details while maintaining an understanding of how decisions within one subsystem affect the overall system.

Who we are looking for

You have at least five years of relevant experience in Systems Engineering, system architecture, or similar work involving complex technical systems.

Your technical background may include experience in areas such as satellite communications, RF, modems, Software Defined Radio (SDR), communication links, signal processing, or related technologies.

We also expect you to have experience in several of the following areas:

• System design and system architecture.
• Requirements engineering and requirements decomposition.
• System integration.
• Testing, verification and validation.
• Technical coordination and follow-up of suppliers.
• Technical project management.

Previous experience from the space industry is an advantage but not a requirement. A background in areas such as defence, telecommunications, or advanced radio and communication systems can be equally relevant.

Experience or education related to INCOSE is also considered an advantage.

The technical environment

You will join a small technical team working across a broad range of advanced technologies. The environment spans both space- and ground-based systems, where satellites, terminals, modems, radio and data communication systems, ground infrastructure, and management systems need to work together.

The client develops its own products and systems while also working closely with external suppliers on selected parts of the overall solution. There is also an in-house laboratory environment for integration, testing and verification. Laboratory testing and test automation may be part of the work when needed, but these activities are not the main focus of the role.

The position gives you the opportunity to work close to the technology while maintaining a system-level perspective, ensuring that different components and subsystems come together to form a robust and reliable overall system.
