Have you been considering a career change but have not yet found the right opportunity?

Are you looking for a position where you can work across a broad range of surgery, take responsibility, and at the same time enjoy a healthy work-life balance? Then this could be the opportunity for you.

We are looking for a Specialist in General Surgery to join a smaller acute care hospital located on a Nordic island in a unique setting. Here, you will have the opportunity to work broadly within surgery and become an important part of a close-knit clinical team.

About the position

The surgical department offers a broad scope of practice and is not divided into narrow subspecialty sections. This means you will work with a varied patient population and have the opportunity to use a wide range of your surgical skills.

The work includes gastrointestinal surgery, gallbladder and hernia surgery, colorectal surgery, proctology, endoscopy and acute surgery. Both open and laparoscopic surgery are performed.

Endoscopy is a natural part of the surgical practice and includes both gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

Working at a smaller acute care hospital means that the working day can vary considerably. You should therefore enjoy a broad surgical role and feel confident assessing and managing a range of surgical conditions.

Close collaboration and a supportive team

As a surgeon, you will become an important part of a smaller team where colleagues work closely together and support one another. Collegial support and guidance are available when needed.

We are not looking for someone who is expected to know everything. What matters is that you have broad surgical competence, sound clinical judgement, and the confidence to recognise when you may need support or wish to further develop your skills in a particular area.

The smaller hospital setting also gives you the opportunity to contribute your experience and play an active role in the continued development of the department.

Work-life balance

The position is located in a unique Nordic island environment, surrounded by the sea, archipelago and nature. It offers an attractive alternative for those seeking a different lifestyle from what is often associated with working at a large regional or university hospital.

For those who value both a professionally rewarding career and time for family, leisure and recovery, the location offers an attractive combination.

Qualifications

We are looking for a specialist who:

  • Holds an EU-recognised specialist qualification in General Surgery
  • Has broad surgical competence and experience
  • Has experience in gastrointestinal and acute surgery
  • Has experience in endoscopy, particularly gastroscopy
  • Is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Has good collaboration skills and a patient-centred approach
  • Is flexible and appreciates the variety that comes with working at a smaller acute care hospital
  • Has good English language skills
  • Has a strong motivation to learn Swedish. Language training is provided.

Experience in additional areas of surgery is considered an advantage.

Who are you?

You are a Specialist in General Surgery who appreciates the breadth of the specialty and enjoys working in a smaller clinical environment where collaboration, flexibility and responsibility are a natural part of everyday work.

You are confident in your professional role, collaborative and open-minded. You value being part of a close-knit team where colleagues support one another and where your experience and expertise can make a meaningful contribution to both the department and its patients.

You are also motivated to continue developing professionally and are happy to share your own knowledge and experience with colleagues.

What Dignus Medical offers you:

• Ongoing support from a recruiter before, during, and after your employment

• Assistance with obtaining Swedish authorization and specialist approvals

• Help with relocation, accommodation, and support for your family if needed

• Access to a free language course with a private tutor via Teams/Skype:
