Department of Clinical Sciences
Do you have clinical experience as a small animal veterinarian, with expertise in reproduction and artificial insemination? An opportunity has arisen to join the Small Animal Department at the University Animal Hospital (UDS), working with reproduction and general veterinary care in a setting closely integrated with research and the teaching of veterinary-and veterinary nursing students. We look forward to receiving your application!
About the position
As a licensed veterinarian at University Animal Hospital, you will work at the Reproduction Clinic. The clinic provides diagnostic services and treatment for diseases of the reproductive organs, optimisation of mating timing, investigation and management of oestrus cycle disorders, fertility assessments, as well as semen collection and cryopreservation and artificial insemination.
You will also participate in general veterinary care as part of the varied day-to-day activities at Sweden's only university animal hospital, which operates around the clock.
The position includes evening, night and weekend shifts. Our operations run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
You will receive support from our specialists and experienced colleagues in the team, helping you to feel at home in the clinic and develop professionally in your role.
As SLU is Sweden's only institution providing higher education for animal health professionals, you will play an active role in educating the veterinarians and veterinary nurses of the future, both in the clinical setting and through other teaching activities in animal reproduction.
You will also devote some of your time to reproductive research, with opportunities to apply for your own research funding or participate in other research projects. Our reproductive research is highly active and encompasses all animal species and all aspects of reproduction. The Department has access to advanced laboratory techniques, enabling both in vivo and in vitro studies, and benefits from well-established national and international collaborations.
Your profile
You are a licensed veterinarian authorised to practise veterinary medicine in Sweden. You have several years of clinical experience working at a small animal clinic. We would also like you to have experience as a reproduction veterinarian, with the skills required to perform routine procedures such as insemination, semen collection and cryopreservation.
As the position involves extensive contact with animal owners and students, you must have a good command of Swedish, both spoken and written, or have a good proficiency in English and be motivated to learn Swedish. The Department will support you in developing your Swedish language skills.
At the University Animal Hospital, we are customer-focused and committed to maintaining a professional approach characterised by goodwill and a positive attitude in our relationships with clients and colleagues. You are an effective communicator with the ability to establish and maintain good relationships with both clients and colleagues. You have an interest in teaching and in contributing to an environment that provides good conditions for research. As a veterinarian at the University Animal Hospital, you take a scientific approach to your work and have an interest in evidence-based veterinary medicine. You understand that working in an emergency service, where workloads are driven by unpredictable events and working hours are irregular, requires flexibility and adaptability.
As a person, you are well-organised, have good self-awareness and an understanding of what causes you stress, and are motivated to contribute to the organisation. In this recruitment process, great emphasis will be placed on your personal qualities and competencies.
