Job Description

Do you want to take on exciting challenges and contribute to a changing energy landscape? Join our Fundamental Analysis team and use your expertise to develop valuable market insights and support better-informed decisions. Together with talented colleagues in an international environment, you will have the opportunity to grow, collaborate and make a difference.

The department, team, and job

As part of the Analysis department, the Fundamental Analysis team develops models and analyses on power markets, deals and assets, following an Agile / Scrum process. We provide model-based forecasts of power prices and analysis of price drivers to support decision making in the traded market horizon and beyond. Our analysis is based on fundamental power forecasting models covering our core markets on the continent and in the Nordics. We believe that the decisions we help make enable fossil freedom that drives society forward.

The position is located in Stockholm as part of an international team of highly professional, skilled analysts, located in Hamburg and Stockholm.

What you will do:

Build better models: Collaborate with your team members to develop our short-, mid- and/or long-term fundamental power-price models and contribute to our hydrological models.

  • Improve our forecast by adapting our models to evolving electricity markets, such as producing better and dynamic assumptions for inputs such as electricity demand, stack, solar and wind production, etc..
  • Turn stakeholder needs into new model capabilities. Communicate your developments to the stakeholders and gather their reflections. Examples could be volatility estimation or applying data science methods to update demand profiles.
  • Use generative AI and AI agents responsibly to streamline our analytical methods.
  • Improve model architecture, cloud efficiency, code quality and data integration.

Create insight: Run simulations and translate results into clear answers for hydro bidding and optimisation, valuation, trading and ad-hoc questions for our stakeholders.

  • Deliver market insights to support decision making for battery and wind project valuations and hydro production planning.
  • Investigate scenarios to estimate their market price and asset portfolio impact and support Vattenfall’s position on power market regulatory topics.
  • Provide fundamental analyses that enable profitable trading strategies.
  • Update our market outlook and present it to upper management to keep them informed on energy market developments.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

  • A good understanding of Nordic energy markets and a curiosity to learn more about Nordic and Continental European markets.
  • Strong Python skills and a collaborative approach to improving code, infrastructure and ways of working. Experience with Git, DevOps, Azure or containerization is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of quantitative methods, power modelling, mathematical optimisation or data science. Experience with an energy-market simulation tool such as EMPS is welcome.
  • An academic degree in engineering, mathematics, or a related field, would be preferred. Energy-systems modelling is a plus.
  • Fluency in English is required, Swedish is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel a few times per year, for example to Hamburg for team events or for trainings.

You do not need to meet every requirement to apply. If this role excites you and you believe you can contribute, we would like to hear from you.

Additional Information

We offer:

  • Meaningful analytical challenges in fast-changing energy markets.
  • An active Analysis community that shares knowledge on topics from flow-based market coupling to practical uses of AI.
  • A welcoming, respectful workplace with flat hierarchies, appreciation for own initiative, open discussion culture and zero-tolerance for harassment.
  • An international team where we believe diverse perspectives improves our work.
  • A flexible, supportive Agile culture with trust, autonomy and no micromanagement.
  • Support for professional growth, including learning opportunities and internal rotations.
  • Flexible working hours, including working remotely up to half of the time per week.

We are convinced that diversity contributes to building a more profitable and attractive company. We work actively for all employees to have the same opportunities and rights regardless of age, religion, gender identity & expression, sexual identity, disability, religion, and ethnic background.
