Job Overview
Role Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Design Engineer for a long-term consulting assignment focused on chassis integration for battery-electric heavy-duty vehicle solutions. The role covers the mechanical design and integration of components and systems within the chassis, including sheet metal structures, brackets and installation solutions, pneumatic components and installations, component packaging, and chassis integration. Experience in at least one of these areas is required, while broader experience spanning multiple areas is advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, brackets, and installation solutions for heavy-duty vehicle chassis.
- Produce and maintain 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using CATIA V5 and applicable design standards.
- Manage component packaging, mechanical interfaces, tolerances, and installation requirements within the chassis environment.
- Develop solutions involving sheet metal, plastic, and pneumatic components, with consideration for manufacturing feasibility.
- Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams throughout the development process.
- Participate in design reviews, validation activities, and technical investigations.
- Maintain accurate technical and engineering documentation.
- Provide technical support to production when required.
- Independently plan and drive assigned design activities while contributing to technical knowledge sharing within the team.
Technical Stack & Requirements
- CAD: CATIA V5 for both 3D modeling and 2D engineering drawings.
- Mechanical design: Strong competence in sheet metal design and/or pneumatic system design.
- Engineering analysis: Practical experience with tolerance analysis and the management of mechanical interfaces.
- Vehicle integration: Understanding of component packaging, installation constraints, and chassis integration.
- Manufacturing: Knowledge of design-for-manufacturability principles, particularly for sheet metal, plastic, and/or pneumatic components.
- Development environment: Previous R&D experience involving heavy-duty vehicle development.
Qualifications & Experience
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required, together with at least three years of design engineering experience. Candidates must have previous research and development experience from heavy-duty vehicle development, hands-on CATIA V5 competence, and a strong background in sheet metal and/or pneumatic design. Previous experience with chassis design and installation for heavy-duty vehicles is advantageous, as is experience combining several of the relevant technical disciplines. The role requires the ability to drive design work independently and collaborate effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams. Fluency in English is required.
