Berg Propulsion is now looking for an Engineering Manager Software Development to join the organisation. In this role, you will take on a key leadership position within software development, leading a team working with advanced control systems for marine propulsion solutions. ABOUT THE ROLE

As Engineering Manager Software Development, you will lead a team of 15 software engineers developing advanced control systems for marine propulsion solutions. Software development is primarily carried out on a Linux-based platform using technologies such as C, C++, Go, and React.

The team works across two main areas: customer-specific adaptations of existing products and the development of next-generation systems and functionality. Your role is to set direction and priorities across both areas and ensure that complex initiatives move from decision to completed, high-quality delivery.

You will also help shape the future of Berg’s software development capabilities by identifying how AI-assisted development and other emerging technologies can be introduced securely, responsibly, and where they create real value.

Combining leadership with technical understanding, you will drive structure, prioritisation, and ways of working while contributing to technical discussions and architecture and design decisions. You will collaborate closely with hardware, systems, product, and other engineering functions to create alignment across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, coach, and develop the software engineering team, supporting individual growth and team performance.

• Translate priorities and decisions into clear plans, ownership, and accountability.

• Ensure on-time delivery of order-specific software releases.

• Drive complex software development initiatives through to completed, quality-assured delivery.

• Ensure a lifecycle perspective across development, delivery, service, updates, and long-term maintenance.

• Contribute to technical discussions and support architecture and design decisions.

• Continuously improve development practices, processes, tools, and software quality.

• Promote the secure, responsible, and value-creating use of AI-assisted software development.

You will report to the CTO. The position is based on Hönö, and fluency in Swedish and English is required. The recruitment process will include security vetting, which the successful candidate will be required to complete successfully.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a technically strong and forward-thinking leader who has successfully led software teams in a product-oriented environment and brings a solid background in embedded software development. Experience with Linux-based platforms is advantageous.

You combine a strong understanding of modern software development practices with structured and pragmatic leadership. You make informed decisions, create alignment, and drive complex initiatives towards high-quality delivery. You recognise the potential of AI-assisted software development and understand the importance of introducing it safely, responsibly, and where it creates real value. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build relationships across functions are key.

Qualifications:

• Relevant academic degree in engineering or equivalent professional experience.

• Proven experience leading and developing software teams in a product-oriented organisation.

• Strong understanding of modern software development practices, including CI/CD, code reviews, version control, and testing strategies.

• Technical understanding of development in C, C++, or Go, with the ability to evaluate and challenge technical solutions.

• Understanding of software lifecycle, including delivery, service, updates, and long-term maintenance.

Meritorious:

• Experience from the marine industry, industrial automation, or other critical safety systems.

• Knowledge of cybersecurity for industrial solutions, including relevant standards.
